One of the biggest bands in all of music history, Nirvana made a big impact that went well outside of the short lived grunge genre they are seen as rocketing to worldwide fame. Their music and even the untimely demise of their lead singer Kurt Cobain touched a lot of lives. When it comes to their bootlegs, there have been quite a few famous ones that fans have scrambled to get a hold of and not the least of these was the performance they gave on August 30, 1992 at the Reading Festival in the United Kingdom. This particular package gives fans excellent video on the DVD with 5.1 Surround Sound with audio straight from the original multi-track masters. Fans get a lot to love here with the kind of performance Nirvana was well known for during their brief but brilliant existence as a band.
One rather annoying thing for serious fans is going to be that despite the technical superiority this version has over the bootlegs, it is lacking things that existed in those earlier recordings of this particular performance. We don’t get the between songs banter that really made a Nirvana show what it was in those days. That’s a bit trying on the nerves, but the insertion of canned crowd cheering is definitely going to grind some nerves. This could certainly have been left out without harming the DVD or CD. In all, the DVD wins out over the CD in offering more unique factors since all of the songs can be heard somewhere else, but video footage of this performance really does offer something totally different.
